Troy Flaharty grew up riding, training, and showing halter and reining horses. Troy and his family experienced great success in the show pen producing AQHA World Show Qualifiers, All American Quarter Horse Congress Reserve Champion Reining Horse & multiple NRHA World Show Champions.
As a teenager Troy caught the calf roping bug and began competing at local and regional rodeos where he secured a rodeo scholarship to Fort Scott Community College and later a rodeo scholarship to Kansas State University. He experienced success at the intercollegiate level in calf roping, team roping, and steer wrestling. Winning and placing at numerous NIRA, IPRA, ACRA, & CRRA rodeos.
After college Troy managed and co-owned a large cow calf operation and became involved in showing in ranch horse competitions. Troy’s horses won several RHAA approved shows, won the Kansas Championships, and were RHAA World Show Qualifiers.
Showing working ranch horses progressed into showing cutting horses with Troy becoming a member of the NCHA. He had success at the weekend show as well as aged events.
During Troy’s college years his attention turned to bit making. With his diverse experience in different equine disciplines he was able to recognize the mechanics of bitting a horse for an optimal performance.
Over the last eighteen years Troy’s bits and spurs have evolved not only from functional performance enhancing equipment but also beautiful works of art that are appreciating in value.
